Getting to Know Barry
Hello, my fellow Oviedo neighbors. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Barry Cammack, and I am a Candidate for Council Seat Group 1.
I have resided in the City of Oviedo since 1988. I am a family man, an avid sports enthusiast and a concerned public citizen. My wife, of 37 years, and I have raised our two children here.
They both had a wonderful childhood and greatly benefitted from our “A” rated schools. Both of my children attended Lawton Elementary, Jackson Heights Middle School and Oviedo High School.
Like most families, we were involved with many of the youth activities offered in our City. I was fortunate to coach my son in both Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, youth soccer and a short stint with Pop-Warner Football. My daughter played basketball and volleyball, and I was fortunate to coach her YMCA basketball team. As my children entered high school, I was involved with the Football Field Paint Crew, the Booster Club and in 2002, during Coach Greg Register’s time at Oviedo High School I was able to start the Oviedo High School Touchdown Club with the help of other parents. My wife and I were active participants at Oviedo High School in Athletic Boosters and Football, Girls Volleyball and Basketball Programs.
My profession is that of a Licensed Mortgage Loan Officer, which I have done since 1991. I have been asked if that is the same as a Real Estate Agent. And the answer is No! As a Loan Officer, I am not involved in taking customers out to show real estate. I do not work for a Builder’s Mortgage company, so I do not and cannot directly receive commission income from a new housing development. My business comes from past clients and from referrals from Real Estate agents. If I were to have to vote on a new subdivision or a new commercial development, the chances of me getting direct income from voting for these types of properties would be almost nonexistent. I am not involved in originating commercial loans, so I would not have any conflict with voting for a commercial development.
My wife and I are very fortunate that both our children still live in the area and we are proud Grandparents of a two-year-old little girl. We have a 10-year-old yellow Lab named Thelma. She is a retired therapy dog that was once an active visitor at the Lutheran Haven Nursing Facility. We also have two grand dogs Bella our Beagle and Weller our white Lab.
I am not a big proponent for social media, thus I have listed my positions throughout this website, on topics I have been asked about, along with documentation on some of my positions. I have no desire to debate my opinions in the world of social media, however, I would very much so like to hear from my fellow residents on their thoughts and opinions on ways to better our City.
On this web page I will place the various locations and times of where I will be, in the form of a calendar, so political discussions can take place the “old fashioned” way, face to face. This website will have documentation for you to review as to why I have formulated my positions, and I will have media documentation to visibly show my positions.
I look forward to the upcoming campaign season. I am especially looking forward to meeting many of my neighbors during this time and together finding ways to improve our great City of Oviedo, which we affectionally call “Home”.
